Anyone know a good dog shampoo for sensitive skin?

My dog has very sensitive skin and is very allergic to many things. The pet store recommended us a shampoo when we got her as a puppy (she is now 8mos.) Since we don't bathe her OFTEN (once a month) and since she has just started showing signs of allergies, we kept using it. But now she is itchy and we want to switch. Does anyone know of a good shampoo for her, that maybe you or a friend has acutally used on your/their dog? (let me add, she's just itchy, like her skin is dry for a couple of days after her bath, it DOES NOT cause any open sores or rashes, and I've already been to the pet store looking but their were so many different kinds and I just don't trust employees anymore, I'd like something that you've tried and it's proven to be gentle.) also, does anyone know a good way to keep them clean between baths? (we got a fence and like to play in the dirt! : \ ) thanks!!!|||Both of my english bulldogs have severy allergies and the shampoo that was recommended by the dermatologist was MALASAB..no prescription needed..you can find this online..bath 2X per week then also use RESICORT leavin in conditioner.|||a shamppo for a a young puppy 4-8 wekks would be good for sensitive skin|||Go to a PetsMart and talk to the dog trainer. They are very knowledgeable about a dogs needs.

Try an oatmeal shampoo. Not only is it gentle on the skin, but it also helps with itching.|||anything with oatmeal. spa lavish gets very good reviews. but i just recommend finding an oatmeal shampoo.

what kind of dog do you have? many times people who bath themselves do not have the first idea of how to bath. they say their dog has allergies, but it is actually itchy b/c you didnt bath them correctly. if even a little bit of shampoo is left in, the dog will get itchy skin. many dogs will also get itchy skin is not hand dried. why dont you try a groomer?|||Our dogs have sensitive skin as well (Chocolate Lab and a Shelty-Shepherd mix). We use Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Easy on the skin with the added benefit of "No More Tears!"|||They have an Oatmeal and Aloe shampoo at Petsmart and Petco. It has a Husky on it. I use that for my dog Dakota who gets dry flaky skin. After using it her fur is soooooo soft and not flaky anymore.

Im not sure how to keep them clean. Dakota likes to roll in the dirt and grass too.

i don't think theres a way to keep them clean between baths! Its a dog thing they like to get dirty and smell like the outdoors.|||look for a shampoo with oatmeal and switch the food to something with lamb...try that first and if it's still bad you may want to follow up with a vet, my dog had the same problem and we ended up having to do the above plus get him cortizone injections, basically he was allergic to his own dander which is actually pretty common as it turns out|||Tomlyn Oatmeal. Its hypoallergenic and the oatmeal soothes the skin.|||OATMEAL shampoo is good...

however have you checked her food???

many skin problems are the result of crap in some dog foods

avoid BEEF, PORK, WHEAT, CORN, SOY, and "Meat Meal"= mystery meat...all are known allergy causers

do you use any chemical house hold cleaners that could be bothering her?

typically dogs DO NOT need bathing that often - it could be the bathing is the problem - NEVER NEVER listen to what pet stores tell you - they are simply trying to sell you SOMETHING...

did you get her from the pet store?? this could be the problem - pet stores sell the LOWEST quality pets for the high prices.. these pups are NOT selected for health or good genetics - they are purchased cheap and resold high.. as such she could have a genetic skin problem..

always use a blow drier to dry a wet dog.. make sure the ears are dried well - you can get ear infections if not...|||Honestly...... DOVE|||nothing over the counter will work. Go tot your vet and get medicated shamppo and lotion.

(he can also give you anti itch pills)|||almost anything that is listed as an oatmeal shampoo would probably be ok.

keep in mind that too many baths too often will dry out her skin also. you will be washing away her natural oils|||I've only used it once, but it was awesome. Buddy Wash and Buddy Rinse. I used it last time I bathed my Jenna (only problem was the sensitive skin shampoo I'd been using made her have really bad dandruff after the bath). Bathed her in Buddy Wash and Rinse and no dandruff. I got it at Petco. It's a coconut based shampoo which I think made the biggest difference. You can read about it http://www.cloudstar.com it's the same company that makes Buddy Biscuits. Nothing artificial about it. I look forward to washing my other dog in it now. :P|||Even though you have two dogs of the same breed doesn't mean that each dogs chemistry is the same.

I would find anything that has oatmeal in it, the suggestions you have been getting are great too...

between bathing have you tried the wipes that out for dog and cats, other wise you may have to use a wash cloth with some of the shampoo that you do use right now or the new brand that you find, and wipe them down when they come in since they enjoy to play in the dirt. :)
